What’s On My Bookshelf?

by Carley Cooper

The books on a person’s shelf can say a lot about who they are and about their life.

Here’s a list of books, randomly chosen, from my bookshelf.
  1. Wherever Grace is Needed by Elizabeth Bass
  2. The Maker’s Diet by Jordan S. Rubin
  3. The Weight  Loss Cure by Kevin Trudeau
  4. Good Owners, Great Dogs by Brian Kilcommons with Sarah Wilson
  5. Sitting by My Laughing Fire by Ruth Graham Bell
  6. The Stenciled House by Lyn Le Grice
  7. Emotions You Can Trust by Dr. James Dobson
  8. The Total Money Makeover Workbook by Dave Ramsey
  9. Cure for the Common Life by Max Lucado
  10. The Kitchen Idea Book by Joanne Kellar Bouknight

  1. That's a whole lot of Self Help! -- often my favorite style of book (perhaps that's why I love magazines) -- with the Study Bible and accompanying resources being the cornerstone to answer our every question in learning how to live in and for the Glory of God. May you be richly blessed this day and every day! Hug, hug -- (ejoy)Evelyn

    1. My shelves are filled with mostly self-help. That's because I love to learn new stuff. And I'm always out to better myself. I have quite a few bibles on my shelves as well though. Maybe blessings to you Evelyn. HUGS.

  3. I used to read everything and anything.
I could read a book in a day!
But I read books that were not bringing me closer to God and most of the time they were books that brought me further from God.
The last book I read like that I shared it with my pastor and he asked me why I read those books.
He quoted the scripture that said "Above all, guard you heart", and explained to me the damage I was doing to my spiritual health.
I had never really seen it that way and I went home and cleaned my book shelf of all the books I judged not suitable for a Christian-especially to a new one.
My book shelf is filled with books, but ,like yours, they're books that help me grow(and the ones I hoped would make me shrink! like diet books!)
The Bible is the only book I'm reading for now and it's fine by me!

    1. I have several bibles on my shelves. It's the one book that has the answer to everything! One can never learn enough from it, and one will never get tired of reading it. That's pretty awesome! Many blessings to you. HUGS

  6. Carley,
Great list. I have a lot of books at my house. Right now we also have a lot of children's books, and I am trying to add more Christian children's books and not just the old nursery rhyme and usual books.
Of course the Bible is my favorite, and the one we need to go to to Know God and how He wants us to live our lives.
